Poker Blog Round-up: Kakitee, Amy, Andre3w321, Boomtown Poker and Rosie
When my dad uttered those words every son or daughter hears at some point in their life, I thought to myself, “yeah, whatever, you silly old sod” and got on with my day. He was of course telling me that “as you get older, time goes by quicker.” It seems Pudding Dad was telling the truth as we are now about to start June, I swear it was only two weeks ago I was opening Christmas presents! Better get on with this week’s poker blog round-up then.
First up is a blog entitled “If My Life Were A Novel” and is written by Koray Turker, a 21-year old living in New Zealand. I’ll admit that I have not read all of his entries as I simply haven’t had the time to do so yet but a recent post caught my eye as he lost $10k in less than 48 hours! I get really naffed off if I drop $100 never mind $10k, which is probably why I would struggle to make it as a poker pro.
Another player who thinks they would struggle to become a professional poker player is none other than Amy Calistri, co-author of Mike Matusow’s autobiography “Check-Raising the Devil” and who writes the brilliant blog called “AimlessleyChasingAmy.” I recommend everyone who reads this blog round-up to check out Amy’s entire blog as it is written beautifully and often writes about subjects that get you thinking. Her recent article hit home with me as I have had money problems in the past which are now leading to me struggling with some aspects of poker.
Ask anybody who plays online poker regularly what they think about the standard of the games, particularly No-limit Hold’em, and they will be unanimous in saying they have certainly become tougher in the past 12 months. With that in mind, now could be a good time to learn a new game such as Pot-limit Omaha and cash in on the fish before they too become solid at the game.
Learning a new game can often be frustrating as you will not know what constitutes being a good player but Andr3w321wrote a good piece on “What makes a good PLO player” Needless to say after reading the points, it confirmed what I already knew and that is that I am a PLO fish! Look out for me at a table near you!
After three serious sounding posts, I thought I would lighten things up with a great entry from Goose of Boomtown Poker. I’ve mentioned this guy before because he really cracks me up with the way he describes the goings on around him, quite graphic, taking no prisoners and pulling no punches – just how I like it! He recently worked at the Chelsea Flower Show, and blogged about the experience in his usual comic style. Funny post.
Just a quick late mention for Rosie of “Girlie Poker” who’s popular blog contains both poker and life stories. I think the majority of my readers are male so you should find her guide to buying underwear for your better half handy indeed. The only pointers I was ever told or heard were make sure you get the size spot on as this is extra Brownie points, if in doubt do not buy anything red and most women wouldn’t appreciate a gimp suit!
I think that’s it for now for another week. Hopefully the good weather will hold up for the weekend and let us catch a few rays of sunshine. Until next week, which will feel like two days away, take care and good luck at the tables.
