Timeform 1-2-3: February 9th

The focus is on the jumps action on Tuesday, and Timeform’s Jimmy Cooper has come up with three recommendations.

“With the prospect of more to come up in trip, there has to be a chance that a 10 lb rise will not prevent further success.”

The most competitive race on the Market Rasen card is the 2m5f handicap hurdle at 3.00. Quite a few of these are open to improvement now tackling handicaps, but it may be worth chancing the fitness of Crop Walker on his belated return. The selection clearly hasn’t been the easiest to train, not sighted since an eye-catching third at Doncaster in December in 2008, but he returns on a potentially favourable mark, and, at likely decent odds, Crop Walker makes plenty of appeal.

Over at Sedgefield in the 3.10 contest, it may be worth opposing the Rose Dobbin-trained Middleton Dene in the beginners’ chase. The eight-year-old boasts useful form in handicaps over timber, but was most disappointing when a laboured fourth on his chase bow in October. Whilst he’s clearly capable of better than that, there are enough negatives to oppose Middleton Dene in the win market.

Half an hour later, Do It For Dalkey (3.40 Sedgefield) looks a solid wager to back up his opening success on his debut for this yard in November. The selection ran out a ready winner on his handicap bow at Carlisle in a race working out really well, and, with the prospect of more to come up in trip, there has to be a chance that a 10 lb rise will not prevent further success.

Recommendations

3.00 Market Rasen Back Crop Walker
3.10 Sedgefield Lay Middleton Dene
3.40 Sedgefield Back Do It For Dalkey
