Premier League Betting: Sunderland v Man City

Roberto Mancini’s men may have been flattered by their excellent victory over Chelsea, but they are still capable of scoring goals home or away says “Mystical” Mike Norman. Best Bet: Back Man City @ 2.26 to beat Sunderland. Best Bet: Back Man City @ 2.26 to beat Sunderland Also: Back Over 2.5 Goals @ 2.08 ; Back Tevez To Score @ 2.4 ; Back 1-3 (to Man City) Correct Score @ 22.0 and Any Unquoted Score @ 13.0 (split stakes). I asked myself two questions when preparing to preview this game; have Sunderland turned the corner following their 4-0 thrashing of Bolton in midweek, and are Man City as good as their 4-2 victory over Chelsea suggests they are?

Horseracing Betting Briefing March 14 to March 20: The waiting is nearly over

There’s only one show in town this week and it takes place at Prestbury Park. There are twenty-six races at the four-day Festival so ahead of one of the busiest punting weeks on the calendar; Andrew Hughes brings us the best of the betting action taking place over the next seven days . “The distinctive roar as the tape goes up for the Supreme Novices Hurdle always sends a shiver up the spine.” Tuesday March 16 1:30 Supreme Novices Hurdle The distinctive roar as the tape goes up for the Supreme Novices Hurdle always sends a shiver up the spine. This year’s renewal looks more straightforward than usual with Dunguib one of the Festival bankers at 1.99 2:05 Arkle Challenge Trophy Fearless jumping and a turn of foot are the attributes required for victory in this prestigious two mile chase. Captain Cee Bee is the current favourite at 4.2 2:40 William Hill Trophy Fiercely competitive three mile handicap chase, placing a premium on stamina and the ability to jump well in the scrimmaging of a big field. 3:20 Champion Hurdle The race of the day, this year’s Champion Hurdle is a wide open contest, with Go Native 5.0 Solwhit 7.4 and Binocular 9.2 at the head of the market. Indian Wells Betting: No walk in the park for Davydenko

Sean Calvert looks ahead to this afternoon’s matches at Indian Wells where the ever-resilient Nikolay Davydenko faces a match against the in-form Ernests Gulbis that could prove tricky for the experienced Russian. “Gulbis has never been short on confidence and he’ll be flying at the moment. Plus he’s already had one win here, while Davy’s last match ended in him retiring injured in Dubai so he’s short of match practice.” The BNP Paribas Open begins in earnest this weekend with the men’s second round and Saturday’s matches have presented some handy betting opportunities.

Jack Houghton’s Betting Challenge Week 32: My Festival flutters

Sidelined by betting.betfair’s arrogant and selfish Editors for the Cheltenham Festival’s tips and previews, Jack Houghton takes the law into his hands and gives us his views on the best bets for next week’s racing extravaganza as part of his Betting Challenge. “Dunguib is a pivotal punting horse in the Festival curtain-raiser. Many will no doubt lump on, viewing him as a sure-fire way to double-up their betting bank in a few short minutes. To my mind though, Dunguib is severely underpriced.” There is a truth professional gamblers hold to be self-evident: to be profitable, you must specialise. Losers gorge themselves of all that the great buffet of betting has to offer; winners only ever eat the cheese and pineapple sticks. Who knows what might be lurking in that couscous salad? Therein lies uncertainty, and winners have no truck with uncertainty. Jack Houghton was a long-time follower of the specialisation theory.

XY Factor – Saturday 13 March

The XY Factor is at Wolverhampton on Saturday…. Today’s Race: Wolverhampton 5.10 Today’s Bet and current Betfair price: 3 point win AUGUSTUS JOHN 5.0 Yesterday’s Return: -1.42 Running Return (March) -21.70 VERDICT: AUGUSTUS JOHN gets the nod in a decent quality class 4 handicap. The grey is on for a course and distance hat-trick and although this will be tougher his course and distance experience bodes well over this long trip.

Nick Shiambouros’ Patented 80/20 Bet

Nick’s attentions are turned to Sandown today where he tries to pick a winning 80/20 bet at a huge price. Today’s 80/20 is Oldrik in the 15.05 at Sandown. This seven year old put up a very good effort last time out in the Totesport Trophy at Newbury finishing a closing fifth to Get Me Out Of Here. He was putting in some good work at the finish and should be suited by the Sandown hill this afternoon. I think he could run well at a huge price. At present he is trading at 18.5 on the exchange.

WGC-CA Championship Update and 2-Ball Betting: Back in-form Camillo to beat the defending champ

Paul Krishnamurty wonders if Ernie Els can last the distance on a course where he’s won before and gives us three selections on the two-balls, including siding with colourful Columbian Camillo Villegas to out-score Phil Mickelson. “Nevertheless, man of the moment Camilo Villegas looks good value at around 2.4 to beat the defending champion, who only arrived in Miami the night before the first round and hasn’t looked in top form.” Whatever his wider major-winning profile, backers of Ernie Els could be forgiven for feeling a little edgy about their man’s prospects over the weekend. The Big Easy holds the halfway lead at Doral, a course where he’s won previously, but has a point to prove after bottling numerous golden opportunities in the two years since landing his last title. Most recently, Ernie dumped his second shot in the water at the final hole when holding the lead in another WGC event, the HSBC Champions Trophy . He also blew a tournament at Doral in similar style back in the 1990s on the final hole, and layers will be well aware of the constant threat of a watery grave here at the ‘Blue Monster’. In fact, everything we’ve seen so far suggests there is great scope for a dramatic turnaround on the leaderboard. There are eagle and double-bogey possibilites alike all over this course, as second-placed Robert Allenby’s card illustrates. The Aussie’s nine under tally is comprised of three eagles (including a hole-in-one), twelve birdies, seven bogies and a double

Sandown Placepot: Saturday 13th March

After another winning day for the Placepot team at Wincanton on Friday, we’ll be looking for further success at Sandown on Imperial Cup day… “the Jonjo O’Neill-trained pair Sonowyouno and Aberdale have to enter calculations, with both appealing as well-handicapped individuals.” Imperial Cup day at Sandown kicks off with one of Timeform’s favourite races of the year. The EBF Final is an extremely fertile source of future winners year after year and the 2010 renewal is unlikely to be any different. As ever, it’s full of potential improvers and that’s why we’re likely to need more than just one to try and get through the opening leg. Alfie Spinner is plainly on an upward curve, having tasted success on his last two starts

Indian Wells Betting: Murray’s dry run can end in the desert

Sean Calvert dismisses the chances of world number one Roger Federer and defending champ Rafael Nadal, instead preferring to side with Andy Murray who has plenty to prove after a disappointing early exit in Dubai last month. Plus his pick from the outsiders…. “Murray’s early draw looks good with what should be a nice easy starter against Andreas Seppi, before likely clashes with one of a group containing Igor Andreev, James Blake, Ivo Karlovic, Nicolas Almagro and David Ferrer and none of these should trouble him.” The first Masters Series event of 2010 is upon us and as ever, we head to the California desert and the outdoor hard courts of Indian Wells for the BNP Paribas Open.
