The Injuries and Suspension Column: Stroke will struggle without best player

Ryan Shawcross has been prominent at both ends for the Potters this season so how will they cope without him against Villa? Elsewhere, Blackburn and Bolton are bereft of key players… “Shawcross has played 50 of Stoke’s 66 games since the start of last season and has probably been the Potters best player during this time.” Click Here to subscribe to Player PRO and have a free 14 day trial. Serie A Betting: Genoa games usually mean goals

Dave Farrar focuses on matches involving some of the less fashionable sides in Serie A this week in search of the best betting opportunities. “There’s so much attacking talent on view, that it’s hard to narrow down just who the dangermen will be, but either play safe and go for over 2.5 goals at around about 1.83, or take a little bit more of a chance at a bigger price.” GENOA v CAGLIARI Genoa and Cagliari are level on points in Serie A, and both have a chance of a place in next season’s Europa League, so there’s much to play for at the Marassi. And it’s also a chance for two of the brightest and most positive thinking coaches in the division to go head to head. Gian Piero Gasperini of Genoa and Massmiliano Allegri of Cagliari like to play attacking football, and those philosophies mean that they have been two of the highest scoring sides in Serie A, and are highly likely to produce more goals on Sunday. Genoa get a regular mention in this column, especially when they play at home, and their home games have been worth following in the goals markets, with 11 out of 15 matches at the Marassi producing over 2.5, and their last home match, against Bologna, finishing 4-3 in favour of the visitors. Six of Cagliari’s last seven Serie A games have produced at least three goals, and they’re not afraid to go away from Sardinia and mix it. The game is teed up beautifully, with Genoa desperate to atone for that home defeat last time, and Allegri certain to try and take advantage of any home frailties. It could produce a classic, and I’ll be amazed if there aren’t goals at the Marassi on Sunday afternoon

Premier League Betting: Saturday’s 3pm Kick-offs

FA Cup and International Football is behind us for the time being so “Mystical” Mike Norman is back with a preview of Saturday’s Premier League action. Best Bet: Back Villa HT/Villa FT @ 4.2 in Stoke v Aston Villa. Best Bet: Back Villa HT/Villa FT @ 4.2 in Stoke v Aston Villa Also: Back The Draw @ 3.4 in Birmingham v Everton; Back Bolton @ 2.24 to beat Wigan; Back Draw HT/Wolves FT @ 8.2 and Wolves HT/Wolves FT @ 6.4 in Burnley v Wolves; Back Any Unquoted Score @ 4.5 in Chelsea v West Ham Birmingham 3.2 v Everton 2.48 ; The Draw 3.4 It’s amazing to think that a win for Birmingham will take them just two points behind Liverpool – the side that have been favourites to finish fourth in the Premier League for most of the season. Brum have been brilliant under Alex McLeish , but so have Everton under David Moyes, and just because I don’t think either side deserve to lose I’m backing the draw today. It’s been nearly six months since Birmingham tasted defeat at St Andrews, and in that time they’ve conceded just five home goals so I’d have to favour a low-scoring game here. Under 2.5 Goals is available to back at 1.75 , whilst in the Correct Score market, the 0-0 and 1-1 scorelines can be backed at 10.0 and 7.2 respectively

The Bettorlogic Injuries And Suspensions Column

As big-name players sit out this weekend’s action through injury and suspension, Bettorlogic look at what tends to happen in their absence. “Mauro Zarate was red-carded last weekend in Lazio’s defeat at Sampdoria and his absence should significantly damage Lazio’s chances of easing their relegation worries against Bari.” Click here to subscribe to Player PRO and have a free 14 day trial.

Premier League Betting: Hull City v Arsenal

Title chasing Arsenal face a trip to Hull City on Saturday and Dan ‘The Betting Man’ Fitch thinks that even without Cesc Fabregas, they will have too much for Phil Brown’s Tigers. Best Bet: Back over 2.5 goals @ 1.71 . Recommended Bets: Back over 2.5 goals @ 1.71 ; Back both teams to score @ 1.84 ; Back Arsenal to be winning half time/full time @ 2.2 . Arsenal may have been beaten at home and away by both Chelsea and Manchester United, but it will be the final league table that determines who will be the top team in England.

Premier League Betting: Tottenham v Blackburn

Jaymes Monte looks at the first of the weekend’s Premier League matches where Tottenham are aiming to move clear of those chasing that coveted fourth Champions League spot. Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals @ 2.1 . “Blackburn’s main problem away from home has been finding the back of the net; since the turn of the year they have only managed a solitary goal from open play on their travels in the league. That leads to the 2.1 on their being less than 2.5 goals looking like a good value bet.” Luka Modric has thrown down the gauntlet to his Tottenham team mates by stating that a successful season for them would be to win the FA Cup and claim fourth spot in the Premier League. Not that Spurs or Harry Redknapp have ever shied away from the fact that they are having a tremendous season which could reap endless rewards but a public statement from one of their top players that they are not content with a Europa League spot is of great significance

Scottish Football Betting Preview: Celtic target revenge at Kilmarnock

It’s quarter-final time in the cup where John Girvan is backing Keane and co to avenge defeat at Rugby Park. Meanwhile, don’t expect a cracker at Ibrox but do back Motherwell to continue their sparkling form in the SPL. “Kilmarnock are 8.8 for a repeat of that sensational win in February which ended a run of 14 consecutive Celtic 1.42 wins at Rugby Park.” Last weekend was a disaster

The French Connection: Honeymoon period to end for QPR and Warnock

Sheffield United may be poor away from Bramall Lane, but on their own turf they are in tremendous form. Andrew French believes the Blades will end Neil Warnock’s fine start at QPR and includes them in this week’s treble. Back Sheffield United @ 2.11 ; Back Southend @ 2.13 ; Back Bury @ 2.28 ; The Treble pays approximately 10.37 Leg 1: Sheffield United at 2.11 to beat QPR What an impact Neil Warnock has had at QPR. Two games, two wins, and suddenly life looks much rosier from 15th position in the Championship table. However, they were both home games and one was against a side seemingly doomed – it’s going to get much harder this weekend and I think Sheffield United will end the honeymoon period.

The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Friday March 12

A tip from the Joker to get your betting day under way… The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Back Over 2.5 Goals at 2.42 in Nimes v Chateauroux It turns out the new SV Hamburger can be just like the old SV Hamburger. As they were winning 3-1 against Anderlecht last night, the Joker got to thinking about how some things are just not meant to be: McDonalds might have painted all of its restaurants green, but should never be regarded as a healthy option; so SV Hamburger might have brought in an Italian-sounding coach (Bruno Labbadia), but they should never be regarded as an under-goals team. Tonight’s game is Nimes versus Chateauroux in France’s Ligue 2. You might think you know where this is going, but wait… Six of Nimes’s last seven home games have gone Over 2.5 Goals. They’ve won four of the last five 2-1 ( 9.6 in the Correct Score market), but the Joker’s obliged to find a more likely bet, so, because six of Chateauroux’s last nine on the road have also gone Over 2.5 Goals, that’s what he’s plumping for this evening. Over goals in France, eh? Yes, it’s very brave indeed.

The Championship Betting: Royals can win again but there’ll be no joy at Palace

In his latest Championship preview, Andrew French is predicting Barnsley to ease past Crystal Palace, Reading to beat Bristol City, up and down Watford to bag three points, and Ipswich to heap more misery on Scunthorpe.
