Football Results Round-up: Pompey haven’t got a penny but they might win silverware

French striker fires Pompey into semi-finals with quick brace as cash strapped club prepare for Wembley return… “Those who matched the South Coast club at 500.00 will be celebrating with the Portsmouth fans, having see their odds come in to 13.0 after today’s win.” The road may not be paved with gold but crisis-club Portsmouth are going to Wembley after beating Birmingham 2-0 in their FA Cup quarter-final. Pompey touched 3.8 at Fratton Park before striker Frederic Piquionne scrambled the ball into the visitors’ net after 67 minutes. Three minutes later, Piquionne latched on to the impressive Jamie O’Hara’s killer pass, bamboozled his marker and fired a right foot shot past Joe Hart and into the net. The goal-line technology debate was re-ignited with 10 minutes remaining when Liam Ridgewell thought he’d scored. The referee judged that the Birmingham defender’s close range shot had not crossed the line before David James caught it; television replays showed it had. Birmingham were frustrated to be denied a goal which could have altered the course of the tie but neutrals with an ounce of compassion will be delighted for Portsmouth . After going into administration a fortnight ago the club have now won two games on the trot and are going to Wembley for an FA Cup semi-final.

Premier League players you didn’t realise would be at the World Cup: Arsenal

Over the coming weeks and months Jaymes Monte will give a rundown of Premier League players that you perhaps didn’t realise would be at the World Cup, week one begins with Arsenal… “Song has made a significant impact at international level and has been named in the team of the tournament at the past two African Cup of Nations.” Johan Djourou – Switzerland Born in Ivory Coast but raised in Switzerland by his adopted mother Johan Djourou is now, when fit, a fully fledged member of the Swiss first team squad. He made his debut against Scotland on 1 March 2006 and has since made a further 20+ appearances for the first team

Over/Under 2.5 Goals Betting: Burnley braced for tough afternoon at the Emirates

Should Arsenal be backed to run riot at home to the Clarets? How will United fare if Rooney sits it out at Molineux? Can Wigan shut out Torres? Ed Nicholson selects the best overs and unders bets from the weekend’s Premier League action.

“A 2-0 Arsenal correct score bet and over 2.5 goal strategy has been profitable over the season and I expect it to pay dividends once more this weekend.”

Arsenal v Burnley

Arsenal continue to score and concede goals both home and away. They have actually conceded the most goals of any top nine Premier League teams (14) while their 38 home goals scored is the third highest in the division.

Burnley meanwhile have conceded an amazing 43 times away from home in 14 matches, losing 13 times. They have managed just 10 goals in that time and this simply must be marked down as an over 2.5 goal encounter.

FA Cup Betting: Expect plenty of goals this weekend

Andrew Atherley tells us why the stats don’t lie and backing over 2.5 goals across the board in this weekend’s FA Cup ties should prove to be a winning formula.

“Looking at this weekend’s all-Premier ties, over 2.5 goals is favoured in Chelsea v Stoke at 1.66 – just as you would expect in a league match. But in the other two matches in that category – Fulham v Tottenham and Portsmouth v Birmingham – there appears to be some value in over 2.5 goals, which is a firm outsider in both cases.”

Three of this weekend’s FA Cup quarter-finals are all-Premier League affairs and a key question for Betfair punters is whether to treat these matches any differently because they are in the cup instead of the league.

In one important respect at least, the answer is probably yes. The Premier League five-year average for under/over 2.5 goals is 54% in favour of unders, but all-Premier League ties at this stage of the FA Cup tend more strongly towards over 2.5 goals – the five-year average is 57% overs.

Bettorlogic’s Injuries And Suspensions Column: Spurs to struggle without the King

As key players sit out their respective matches this weekend through injury and suspension, Bettorlogic tell us how their sides are likely to fare without them… “With Everton playing as well as any team in the league in recent weeks they will expect to get a result at White Hart Lane and without the influence of King, Spurs look a solid lay at 2.04 .” Click Here to subscribe to Player PRO and have a free 14 day trial. The Over/Under 2.5 Goals Column: Making beer money from the Carling Cup final

Ed Nicholson gives us his best selections from this weekend’s Premier League fixtures and an intriguing Carling Cup final, where assuming Wayne Rooney can be kept relatively quiet, we should have a low-scoring encounter. “This season Aston Villa have the best defensive record in the Premier League having conceded just 21 goals in 26 games, while Man Utd have conceded just 24 in 28 matches. When sides meet with such good defences – regardless of how good their goal scorers have been and how many times the team has scored, it’s the defences that usually come out the best.” Stoke v Arsenal Stoke have beaten Arsenal twice at the Britannia stadium since winning promotion to the Premier League. Last year they surprised Arsene Wenger’s side by winning 2-1, and then embarrassed an admittedly weakened Arsenal side 3-1 in the FA Cup earlier this year. It seems that Tony Pulis has found the secret to beating Arsenal, and it seems to revolve around the same way Man Utd play them at the Emirates.

Premier League Results: 3-1 Everton win matched at 140

All today’s Premier League results and this afternoon’s betting on Betfair. Everton staged a remarkable comeback against Manchester United this lunchtime which saw the final 3-1 scoreline matched at 140.0 on Betfair. When most teams go one down against the Premier League champions they normally take nothing from the match but this side of David Moyes’ is more spirited than most and those who backed Everton in the match odds as high as 22.0 will be grateful

Premier League Betting: This Weekend’s Non-TV Games

Three games on Saturday and three on Sunday make up this weekend’s non-televised fixtures, and our resident crystal ball hogger “Mystical” Mike Norman is here to preview them all. Best Bet: Back Fulham @ 2.16 to beat Birmingham. Best Bet: Back Fulham @ 2.16 to beat Birmingham Also: Back Under 2.5 Goals @ 2.62 in Arsenal v Sunderland; Back West Ham HT/West Ham FT @ 2.96 in West Ham v Hull; Back Didier Drogba First Goalscorer @ 4.8 in Wolves v Chelsea; Back Blackburn @ 2.04 to beat Bolton; Back Any Unquoted Correct Score @ 14.0 in Man City v Liverpool Arsenal 1.25 v Sunderland 18.0 ; The Draw 6.0 I’m not saying Arsenal’s goalkeeper is a laughing stock but I was at a children’s birthday party the other day and the entertainer came dressed as Lukasz Fabianski ! Fortunately for the embarrassing Pole (or whoever’s in goal for the Gunners) Sunderland’s away form is dismal, and I doubt the Black Cats will threaten to score at the Emirates in what should be a comfortable afternoon for the home side… and their goalkeeper

Bettorlogic’s Premier League Injuries And Suspensions Column

As the likes of Gary Cahill and Nani sit out this weekend’s fixtures through injury and suspension respectively, Bettorlogic discuss how their absences should affect our betting plans… “Since the start of last season Cahill has been the bedrock of Bolton’s defence – playing 55 of their 63 games – and his importance to the Trotters is highlighted by their failure to win any of the eight matches he’s missed, drawing three and losing five.” Click Here to subscribe to Player PRO and have a free 14 day trial.
