League One Betting Preview: Back a tight derby at the Den

Millwall against Charlton is one of several top League One games coming up this Saturday, all of which have the potential to cause a ripples in the promotion markets, writes Alan Dudman. “High octane derbies can often boil over, either with plenty of goals and bad challenges, or they can fail to live up to the hype.” Millwall 2.32 v Charlton Athletic 3.45 , the draw 3.15 Ahhh, memories of my days living in south east London come flooding back as we head, feet first maybe, into this weekend’s derby and the battle of the ’sarf’. Millwall are in good health at the moment, and tackle their third game in the space of a week. Last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Walsall was a slight surprise, but convincing wins either side of that game (including Tuesday’s 3-1 thumping of Carlisle) mean we’re not going to get too much fat on the bone with their price. Factor in their impressive home form – and 2.32 is just about right. That home record would be giving Charlton’s boss Phil Parkinson plenty to mull over. Millwall have won their last four in Bermondsey, and have only conceded the one (to Norwich). In a word – impressive.

Premier League Darts Betting: Week Five

Jaymes Monte believes he has found a bet to take advantage of a recurring chink in Phil Taylor’s armour… “Phil Taylor maintains a 100% record whilst Mervyn King has just one blot on his copybook after he came unstuck against an on fire ‘Rocket’ in week three. He has since returned to winning ways with a good victory over Terry Jenkins and now meets his old foe head on in a battle for top spot.” Although I doubt that the outcome of tonight’s game will have much effect on whether or not either player makes it to finals day, there’s genuine reason to get excited about this match-up between the league’s top two players. That is because it is the first game of this year’s Premier League in which both players have legitimate claims of being near top form ahead of the meeting. Phil Taylor maintains a 100% record in the league whilst Mervyn King has just one blot on his copybook after he came unstuck against an on-fire ‘Rocket’ in week three. He has since returned to winning ways with a good victory over Terry Jenkins last week and now meets his old foe head on in a battle for top spot

Russian Football Betting: Plenty of changes going into the new season

On the eve of the start of the new Russian season, Jonathan Wilson tells us what’s been going on in the off-season with a few new arrivals and plenty of financial problems looming over most of the teams. “Quite what Zenit have done to be so favoured is unclear. They have stuck with their recent tradition of foreign coaches, replacing Dick Advocaat with the former Roma coach Luciano Spalletti. That he is capable of overachieving on a limited budget has been proven, but Russian football is littered with the reputations of coaches who have failed to adapt to local conditions, and it may be that this for him is a season of learning.” The Russian season begins on Friday, as CSKA host Amkar Perm (CSKA 1.53 ; Amkar 8.6 ), but the usual optimism of spring is notably absent this season. FK Moskva have already gone out of business after the withdrawal of their sponsors, Norilsk Nikel, and Krylya Sovetov’s players are threatening to boycott Saturday’s game against the title favourites Zenit St Petersburg in a protest over unpaid wages and bonuses. It is believed the squad is owed a total of $15million, with some payments still owed from 2008, while the coach Yuri Gazzaev – the cousin of the Dynamo Kyiv coach Valeri Gazzaev – has reportedly not been paid at all since taking over at the club last year.

WGC-CA Championship Betting: Round One 3-Balls

Last year’s runner-up is a value contender, the Goose chases gold and Stricker deserves to be favourite. Paul Krishnamurty makes his picks from the first-round 3-balls at Doral. “After four wins in nine months, and barely ever missing from a leaderboard, Stricker looks a more suitable tournament favourite than Mickelson.” 16.46 – Nick Watney @ 2.5 (vs Schwartzel, Toms) Last year’s runner-up Nick Watney can be considered a little unlucky to have bumped into Phil Mickelson on that occasion, as nobody else ever got close

Ben’s Banter: Burton Albion’s Russell Penn

After a frustrating afternoon at the Recreation Ground , Aldershot right-back Ben Herd chatted to Burton’s Russell Penn about a successful first season in League Two. “We have achieved safety with 12 games to go so we are now playing without pressure which is allowing us to express ourselves.” After a couple of decent results we lost 0-2 at home to Burton Albion, who have now done the league double over us, having beaten us 6-1 back in December.

Football Betting: Rooney risks burnout

Sir Alex has seen and conquered all at Manchester United so can he cure Wayne Rooney’s workaholism? Frank Gregan reports

Betfair Big Interview: Ashley Jackson

A World Cup semi-final against the Germans – no, not a dream about the summer in South Africa but a reality for England’s men’s hockey team tomorrow. Betfair got on the long-distance line to India to talk to our young goalscoring star Ashley Jackson. . . “Everyone in the world across all sports knows that playing the Germans in a semi-final of a major tournament will be a very tough game.

Europa League Betting: Juventus v Fulham

Juve are not at their strongest and the Cottagers could get a result from the biggest game in their European history, Richard Aikman tells you why “Fulham’s best chance to sneak a very attractively priced away win 7.0 is likely to come from set-pieces as goalkeeper Alex Manninger is still prone to fumbling crosses and the likes of Brad Hangeland could take advantage of the brittle Bianconeri rearguard.” In a contest between two wily old coaches entertainment goals are likely to be at a premium when Juventus and Fulham clash at the Stadio Olimpico. Having had the misfortune to witness at first hand one of the most uneventful matches in European football in Turin last week, there is little to convince this writer that Fulham’s trip to northern Italy will be much different to that goalless draw between Juve and Ajax. Bianconeri coach Alberto Zaccheroni and opposite number Roy Hodgson know each other well from the latter’s Serie A days and age has not dimmed either elder statesman’s pragmatic approach.

WGC – CA Championship Betting: Top European, Top US & Top 5 Finish markets

The second World Golf Championship is upon us already so we’ve asked “Mystical” Mike Norman to look into his crystal ball and predict which Europeans and Americans will go well this week. “You won’t find a more consistent golfer at 20.0 and above in this market; in fact, all of Henrik Stenson ( 17.0 ), Sergio Garcia ( 17.0 ) and Padraig Harrington ( 15.0 ) can be backed at a lower price than (Oliver) Wilson – which is incredible to believe on what each of those three have, or rather haven’t, achieved in stroke play events recently.” I have to confess to not being a massive fan of these World Golf Championship events, though if I do have a favourite then this week’s CA Championship at the TPC Blue Monster in Doral is most certainly it. My reason for liking this event above the World Matchplay (too much of a lottery), the Bridgestone Invitational (normally a one-man event) and the HSBC Champions (too late in the year) is because it’s played at a point in the season when every player should be close to his ‘A’ game . It’s also played on a course that doesn’t take kindly to wayward tee-shots, poor approach play, or average putting – which effectively means if you’re struggling to find form going into this event then you’ll almost certainly have a tough four days ahead of you. Betfair’s resident golf expert Paul Krishnamurty , and the in-form Steve ‘The Punter’ Rawlings will be giving their thoughts on who they think will win this week, so I’ve taken a look at some of the other markets on offer. Top European It’s hard to look beyond Paul Casey – available to back at 7.6 – as his game appears to be in great order at the moment
