IRELAND’S EYE on Sunday

Sunday 4 April IRELAND’S EYE Today sees the first day of the 3 day Irish National meeting at Fairyhouse whilst Cork second day of its three day Easter meet sees a mixed card featuring the Listed Imperial Call chase. It is also a busy time in England where a flat meeting in Scotland (Musselburgh) is backed up by a brace of jumping meetings at Plumpton and Towcester. A former point winner can beat the leading fancies in the Cork feature today while a decent mare can return to winning ways in a Fairyhouse Graded mares novice hurdle. We recorded yet another double yesterday with Et Maintenant (15/2) scoring well in a Carlisle two mile handicap chase and saver Pay The Bounty (6/4 morn-11/10) winning a Cork maiden hurdle.

IRELAND’S EYE on Saturday

Saturday 27 March IRELAND’S EYE Doncaster opens the flat season today with a typically competitive running of the Lincoln handicap while Kempton on the all weather plays the under card. However it is a very bust day also over jumps where we will be concentrating our efforts and we can choose from meetings at Newbury, Stratford and Bangor whilst Navan provides the action for the Irish racing fraternity. Our main bets will be at Navan today where the Hughes team can land the featured chase whilst in England a former maiden pointer can finally open his account over hurdles. Our fine recent run continued yesterday with our nap the generously priced Pendower (7/2) took the opener on the Newbury card for the Nicholls/Walsh combination in good style. That was followed up by Troodos Jet (3/1) just getting the better of our saver Lerida in a handicap chase at Carlisle.

Football Betting: Why nobody needs a role-model

Hypocritical calls for football players to set perfect examples to youngsters benefits neither players nor fans, says Max Liu. “Roy Keane and Zinedine Zidane were never boring; role models are boring and boredom is unforgivable.” Will John Terry’s commanding performance in England’s win against Egypt put an end to sanctimonious calls for footballers to be role models? Probably not, but I ask because on Wednesday night we saw the best of Terry. We would have seen the best of Ashley Cole too had he been fit; players are at their best on the pitch, playing football is what they excel at and what they’re paid to do. Yes, they endorse charities and provide platitudes about racial equality, but the current received wisdom that they should be role models for children is folly. I’ve always had heroes – Marcel Proust, Bruce Springsteen , Tony Benn – because heroes suddenly fill the sky, they don’t so much lift us out of our own lives as imbue them with wonder and exhilaration. I’m for anything that allows us to dream. What I’m not for is spic-and-spam non-entities who will advertise McDonalds as soon as they’re retired

IRELAND’S EYE on Thursday

Thursday 4 March IRELAND’S EYE Taunton and Ludlow provide our main dish today on the jump scene while Southwell this afternoon and Wolverhampton later this evening supplies the action for the all weather supporters. The hunter chases on both cards provide our main bets today while we will be taking on the likely favourite in the opener at Taunton. Though or nap Bally Wall (14s morn-10/1) just went down to the ill fated Chief Oscar in the featured Ulster National chase at Downpatrick we did nevertheless bag a brace of winners through Rossdari (6/4-9/10) at the Northern Ireland venue whilst the former Irish trained Penny Doc (evens-8/13) scored in the hunter chase at Folkestone. In addition the well backed mare Marys Little Vic (5/2-2/1) finished in the runner up berth in the opener at Downpatrick . Dover’s Hill must rate himself unlucky to retain his maiden ‘tag’ over fences having toppled at the last at Kempton over 2m 5f on his third start and though the 8yo just failed to make all over the same course and distance in a decent contest three weeks ago he may have to settle once again for the runner up honours in the opener at Taunton today – a 2m 7 1/2f novice chase at 2-20

DAQMAN on Thursday

Thursday 4 March DAQMAN? NO LOSING DAYS THIS WEEK: Daqman is in top gear ready for Cheltenham, with 37 points profit in three days, two of them with three wins in a row and one break even. NAPS HAT-TRICK BID: His lays are four out of four and his naps two out of two, with another best bet at Taunton today, and three outsiders for Ludlow: 21.0, 14.5 and 10.5 at Betdaq value this morning. The lads in their hundreds come in to Ludlow for the Gold Cup today (with apologies to A

Carling Cup Final Result: Comeback kings United land another trophy

Inevitable Rooney goal fires holders to another win at Wembley “Once again United’s hero was Wayne Rooney who came off the bench to head a sublime winner over Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel to seal the 2-1 victory. That goal sealed winning bets for those who took a high price of 4.0 about the holders winning in 90 minutes.” Manchester United are Carling Cup champions for the second year in succession after a come-from-behind Wembley win over Aston Villa. Once again the hero was Wayne Rooney who came off the bench to head a sublime winner over Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel to seal the 2-1 victory

IRELAND’S EYE on Monday

Monday 8 February IRELAND’S EYE BETDAQ are the main sponsors on the all weather today at Wolverhampton but it is two tracks better known for the all weather game that we will be concentrating on as Southwell and Lingfield stage two decent jumps cards to start off the week. All our selections today boast past point to point form in either England or Ireland and indeed it could be a 1-2 for the point brigade in a keenly contested novice chase at Lingfield. Another excellent day yesterday and once again we bagged a big priced winner in one of the top contests in Ireland when Citizen Vic (14-12/1) landed the P J Moriarty chase under Paul Townend with our saver Roberto Goldback (3-5/2) back in third at Leopardstown
