NBA Betting: Magic might temporarily lose their sparkle at season’s end

Nick Shiambouros has a short term laying strategy for Dwight Howard’s Orlando Magic – who have the championship in their eyes and not the final few games of the season “The limited playing time of Orlando center Dwight Howard is another reason to oppose the Magic. Howard is the cornerstone of this team and it is unlikely he will play a lot of minutes. Coach Van Gundy will want him healthy and rested before the playoffs begin.” The Orlando Magic look certain to finish the season in second place in the Eastern Conference. The Magic are 4.5 games ahead of third placed Atlanta with only five games left to play in the regular season. Lebron’s Cleveland have already finished first in the Conference. In short, Orlando have nothing left to play for until the start of the playoffs later this month . Coach Stan Van Gundy’s only concern at the moment is the health of his team. He will not risk playing his starting rotation for long minutes in meaningless games and that could give Betfair punters an edge

Premier League Darts Betting: Week Eight

Jaymes Monte is siding with his namesake Mr Wade to continue his escalating level of form and beat the inconsistent Adrian Lewis this week… “Games involving Lewis are always difficult to predict due to that irregularity in his performances, but often there is great value available in his matches for the very same reason. This week I believe the value lies in siding with Wade at 2.26 in the match odds.” So the halfway stage of the Premier League is upon us and Phil Taylor aside we are no nearer to knowing who will or will not be playing on finals day. Four points separate the players positioned second to eighth in the table and it is a case of everyone beating anyone from week to week.

Big-Race Perspective: Midlands Grand National

Timeform share their Perspective views on Uttoxeter’s gruelling seasonal highlight… “ Synchronised proved himself smart in gaining his third win from four starts this season, much his most valuable too, looking one to keep on side in 2010/11, when races such as the Welsh National are likely to be on the agenda” A typically competitive renewal on paper, though it was a gruelling test in the event, to the point that no more than a handful still held a realistic chance a circuit out and only three were able to complete; saying that, the winner and third are both novices, the former improving further as he got the better of one who’d gone with uncharacteristic enthusiasm. Synchronised proved himself smart in gaining his third win from four starts this season, much his most valuable too, looking one to keep on side in 2010/11, when races such as the Welsh National are likely to be on the agenda. He took a while to get motivated but jumped better than previously over fences and relished the extreme test, joining the leader three out and showing a willing attitude to shade the battle. He remains unproven away from the mud, withdrawn from the NH Chase at Cheltenham earlier in the week due to the ground, but is very much on an upward curve and may have better still in him just ten races into his career. L’Aventure isn’t so good as in her prime, but that’s reflected in her mark and there’s clearly life in her yet, finishing in the frame for the fourth time in this contest (has contested five renewals), going with much more zest that usual as she went from the front, jumping soundly and digging deep once tackled by the progressive winner; her stable deserves plenty of credit for the way she’s been handled. Giles Cross shaped a fair bit better than the distance beaten suggests in his first handicap over fences, jumping well close to the pace and still very much in touch with the front two until the straight, showing plenty of stamina just to complete in his own time given how many proven stayers failed to do so. Ballydub is potentially well handicapped on his hurdles form, but with good reason, his jumping of fences having proved his undoing so often this season, crashing out as early as the second with blinkers applied here. Miko de Beauchene has been more out than in since joining this yard, for all he’s potentially well in on a couple of recent showings, once more having everything in his favour but already struggling when hitting the eighteenth

DAQMAN on Saturday

Saturday 20 March DAQMAN? RECORD 16 OUT OF 16 TWICE: Lays king Daqman again completed Cheltenham with 100% record – four out of four – so reaching 16 in a row at the festival over three seasons. His best unbeaten sequence in ordinary races is also 16. HOW HE DID THE DAMAGE AT CHELTENHAM: His Cheltenham lays were: 2008: Sizing Europe (14th of 15 at 2-1 fav), Noland (3rd 7-4 fav), Twist Magic (0 5-1), Ornais (0 9-2 fav), Aigle D’Or (13th of 15 at 4-1 fav), Robin Du Bois (0 7-1 jt fav). 2009: Cousin Vinny (0 9-4 fav), Tatenen (fell 4-1 fav), Can’t Buy Time (4th 4-1 fav), Clarified (fell 17-2), Don’t Push It (0 8-1) and Juveigneur (0 7-2 fav).? 2010: Captain Cee Bee (0 5-2 fav), Bensalem (fell 6-1), Long Run (2nd 11-4), Alfie Sherrin (0 11-4 fav). TWO BANKERS OUT OF TWO: Daqman has had two maximim-stakes win bankers this week: Big Buck’s (won 5-6) at Cheltenham and, yesterday at Lingfield, Beggar’s Opera (won 10-11) We have a Derby and a National on the same day today and, after a pinstickers’ Cheltenham, punters will be hoping for some respite: 22 favourites were beaten at the festival and only nine of the 26 races went to single-figure odds, with winners at 40-1, 33-1 (twice), 25-1, 20-1, 18-1 and so on. One of the culprits was the weather. Drying ground, watering, so then a sticky surface (times were often slow) and, on the final day, rain. Today at Uttoxeter is no different: ground on the good side but with rain expected on top of it

IRELAND’S EYE on Saturday

Saturday 20?March IRELAND’S EYE After Cheltenham everything pales into relative insignificance but nevertheless we do have some fair racing today with meetings at Newcastle, Ffos Las while Uttoxeter stages the Midlands Grand National chase where there is a two pronged Irish raid on the big prize. In Ireland a few of the home riders including Andrew Lynch, Adrian Heskin, Richie Harding and Davy Russell who all tasted success at the Festival have mounts on a competitive Gowran card. A former Iris point winner may benefit for blinkers in the Uttoxeter main event today while a progressive hurdler can land an open novice on the Gowran card. Though punters found it tough going this week at the Festival we did show a small profit for the second day with another brace of winners.

Timeform Radio Racing Tip: Inoma can flush ‘em out in the Midlands National

Two big races today and Jeremy Grayson has a bet for both “Trainer Derek Barry nominated the Midlands National straight after the nine-year-old’s powerful display in winning the Punchestown National Trial (3m4f, heavy) in January, and the forecast continued light rain during the day will help prevent conditions getting unsuitably quick.” The all-weather season reaches its denouement with the Winter Derby at Lingfield (15.35), and the race revolves around Tranquil Tiger . Henry Cecil’s six-year-old is yet to reach the frame in six previous tries at today’s Group 3 level or higher, compared to seven wins at Listed level. In addition, he had already hit the front by the 2f pole in all bar one of his nine career victories to date – no certainty here in this exalted company.

NBA Weekend Betting: A pair of wagers for Sunday’s action

Nick Shiambouros rounds up the latest news from the NBA before hunting down a pair of tips “In my opinion Durant should win the MVP award this year after his incredible season. This young man is averaging nearly 30 points per game and is one of the most explosive players in the game.” The Los Angeles Lakers were beaten 114-111 by a resilient Miami Heat team on Thursday evening. There were 31 lead changes in this very entertaining affair that was decided in overtime. As usual Dwyane Wade led the way for Miami with 27 points which delighted the home crowd. Kobe Bryant scored 39 points for Los Angeles but the rest of the team were not very productive on offense.
