This Week On Betfair Live Video: Livorno v Roma

Roma need to be winning matches such as these if they are to close the gap at the top of Serie A and this trip to Catania is a very winnable fixture for them… Roma will have seen Saturday’s home tie against AC Milan as a great opportunity to draw level on points with them and also close the gap on Inter Milan, albeit for just 24 hours. They failed to achieve the first of their two objectives after the goalless draw on Saturday night but luckily for them, Inter also drew 0-0 at home to Genoa on Sunday night, meaning it’s all still to play for in Serie A. It’s testament to Roma and in particular the managerial skills of Claudio Ranieri that they’re still in contention to win the league despite having been without their two most likely sources of goals in Luca Toni and Francesco Totti for the last few weeks. They’re unlikely to be without this duo once again this weekend but the good news for Roma fans is that they could hardly have hoped for an easier trip than travelling to Livorno. Currently lying in 18th place, they have won just 4 of their 14 home fixtures and if Roma play to the best of their ability and can create enough chances for the talented Mirko Vucinic and former Arsenal forward Julio Baptista , they can take all three points here and this time really pile the pressure on Inter and AC Milan

Serie A Betting: Roma to win and put serious pressure on Inter

Dave Farrar looks ahead to the weekend’s action in Serie A where Claudio Ranieri’s Roma are closing the gap on league favourites Inter Milan and could really turn up the heat on Jose Mourinho’s men by getting the better of the “other Milan” this weekend. “Claudio Ranieri’s side had won eight in a row in the League before throwing away a two goal lead in Naples last week, and even though they’re still troubled by injuries, I think that Roma at home will be too good for Milan.” ROMA v MILAN Milan have the tantalising prospect of waking up on Sunday morning just one point behind Inter in the race for the Scudetto, but first they’ll have to beat Serie A’s in form team in the shape of Roma. Claudio Ranieri’s side had won eight in a row in the League before throwing away a two goal lead in Naples last week, and even though they’re still troubled by injuries, I think that Roma at home will be too good for Milan. Francesco Totti is still out, but there’s a chance that Luca Toni may be fit enough for the bench, and Roma’s strength of will without those two players has been really impressive. They give you the impression of being a squad in the true sense of the word, and the likes of Julio Baptista and Mirko Vucinic have stepped up to the plate in the absence of Totti and Toni. Their chances of winning the midfield battle will be helped by the absence of Gennaro Gattuso from the Milan team, and Roma still have title ambitions of their own, in the knowledge that they alone, among the top teams in the division still have the chance of taking points off Inter. If Roma can win on Saturday night and then beat Inter in three weeks time, then their comfortable looking run in will give them a real chance of a shock title win, and the 18.5 which is available about them winning Serie A isn’t the worst bet in the world

Bundesliga Betting: Visit of Leverkusen to spell yet more trouble for Bayern

Kevin Hatchard tells us how Louis Van Gaal seems to have lost the Bayern Munich dressing room just months into his reign and where our money should be on this weekend’s Bundesliga matches. “Such open dissent spells real trouble for van Gaal. He has a history of failing to control players with big egos, and only seems to get the best out of teams when he has a captive audience.” Bayern Munich 1.92 vs Bayer Leverkusen 4.5 , the draw 3.75 If the pressure wasn’t on Bayern boss Louis van Gaal before, it certainly is now after general manager Uli Hoeness described Sunday’s clash with leaders Bayer Leverkusen as “the game of the season.” Bayern are eighth after winning just five of their 12 Bundesliga matches, and they have failed to convince in recent draws against Stuttgart and Schalke.
