NBA Weekend Betting: Playoff pressure can inspire pair of wins

Nick Shiambouros is concentrating his efforts on teams that need to win with the playoffs just around the corner “Chris Bosh is still relatively unknown outside the NBA and this immensely talented individual is fully aware that a good playoff run by Toronto will elevate his marketability no end. I am anticipating a big effort from Bosh and company at Chicago and while this is bound to be a hotly contested affair my money will be on Toronto .” Miami Heat crushed the Chicago Bulls 103-74 with a dominant display at the Chicago Center on Thursday. This was one of the best performances I have seen all year long from this Miami rotation

Sony Ericsson Open Daily Tips: Opposing Karlovic serves up Friday value

After a bad couple of days in Miami, Sean Calvert bids to bounce back by opposing one serving machine and backing another… “I wouldn’t want to be on Karlovic at 1.22 . His opponent is probably the best 5.5 shot you’ll find today.” It was another strange day at the Crandon Park Tennis Centre on Thursday as both of my bets went down in unfortunate circumstances. First, Victor Hanescu blew a 4-1 first set tie-break lead before winning the second and going on to lose the decider, then Leonardo Mayer was all over Mardy Fish , but a shocking eight double faults cost him the match. One of the first matches on court today features a 1.22 favourite, who is yet to win a main draw match in the Sony Ericsson Open in six years. Ivo Karlovic hates it in Key Biscayne – the courts are too slow and the weather too humid for him, as his results have shown

Sony Ericsson Open Daily Tips: Fish out of form

Low on entertainment, high on punting opportunities. That’s how Sean Calvert sees today first round action in Miami. But can he find a winner? “Mardy Fish has played this event eight times and has three opening round defeats, including the last two years in a row.” It wasn’t the greatest of starts to the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami yesterday, as we became the victims of Benjamin Becker’s yearly victory and a first set retirement voided our other bet. Today there’s not much in the way of entertainment on offer, but there are at least some punting opportunities to be had in the men’s first round matches. The first of these might well be found in the clash between Mardy Fish 1.8 and Leonardo Mayer 2.24 .

Tennis Betting Preview: ‘Going to Miami’

Indian Wells produced a shock winner and, with the top players all suffering from different problems, Sean Calvert believes it might be wise to back an outsider in Miami too. “Andy Murray 7.6 will be desperate to banish the memory of his insipid effort at Indian Wells by doing well in defence of his Miami title.” I told you that the likely finalists at Indian Wells would be a bloke named Andy and a tall, big-hitting Croatian, however I was just slightly inaccurate with the details. Yes, Croatia’s Ivan Ljubicic rolled back the years with a series of great performances to take out Andy Roddick in the final, having been matched at 600.00 outright at the start. I also said that were question marks over the main men at the moment and none of them proved me wrong with the arguable exception of Rafa Nadal, who showed glimpses of a return to form in California. But those question marks remain as we head to Florida for the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami – the second of the Masters 1000 events of 2010, so will there be another Ljubicic in Miami

Sony Ericsson Open Daily Tips: Becker’s miserable run set to continue?

Sean Calvert provides a pair of exciting bets on the day one of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. “Becker is a truly miserable run of form at the moment and in truth he has been for a while, so I’m not quite sure why the layers have him as favourite against Simon Greul.” Sunday’s recommended advice of backing over 23.5 games in the Indian Wells final between Andy Roddick and Ivan Ljubicic came to fruition and hopefully you also heeded my warning about backing Roddick at 1.46 outright. The next Masters event is quickly upon us, as we head to Miami for the Sony Ericsson Open , played as ever on outdoor hard courts. Today’s first round match-ups have provided a selection of handy bets and one of the best chances of value is in the all-German battle between Benjamin Becker and Simon Greul

This week On Betfair Live Video: Sony Ericsson Open in Miami

After last week’s shock win in Indian Wells, the big guns will be out for revenge in the heat and humidity of Miami with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal heading the market. Only someone in possession of a crystal ball or the most die-hard Ivan Ljubicic fans out there could have predicted that the veteran Croatian would have won Indian Wells last week

Women’s Tennis Betting: Miami victory for Victoria?

It’s the “fifth Major” this week as the WTA tour moves to the humidity of Florida. With several of the usual favourites ruled out through injury, Guy McCrea tells us who can pick up huge ranking points and prize money by becoming 2010’s Queen of Florida… “Victoria Azarenka ( 13.5 to win Wimbledon) is the defending Miami champion after she outplayed Serena to win last year’s final. Many thought it would prove the platform for the young Belarussian to go on and win a Grand Slam title. That hasn’t happened yet – but on her favoured hard courts, don’t bet against Azarenka defending the title here..” Barely has the dust settled in the Californian desert at Indian Wells, than the WTA Tour’s finest have crossed the States for an arguably even bigger event – the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Florida . Like Indian Wells, Miami is up there as the most prestigious and lucrative event in the calendar after the majors. It has always been a top tier tournament and offers players huge ranking points if they are successful, plus plenty of prize money – $4.5 million dollars is the total pot this year, with the small sum of $700,000 awarded to the singles champion. The mandatory status of Miami means that it always provides a stacked draw and guarantees plenty of mouth-watering match-ups from the outset. Like Indian Wells, the field is 96 deep – big but slightly smaller than the Slams (128) so the top seeds are threatened more often during the event

Indian Wells Daily Tips: Everything suggests Soderling can’t handle Murray

Sean Calvert has had a good few days and plans to build on an already healthy bank balance by siding with Andy Murray against Robin Soderling, an in-form player but one with a poor record in both outdoor hard courts and Masters Series. “For my money Soderling has it all to prove in hot conditions on outdoor hard courts. He has never been past the second round in Melbourne and only made the quarter finals of the US Open once – and that run was aided by two retirements from five matches.” Thursday was a very profitable day at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden , as all three of my advised bets were successful. Rafa Nadal and Ivan Ljubicic were too strong for Tomas Berdych and Juan Monaco and Rafa did the business in straight sets, so we head into Friday with a healthy bank balance.

Indian Wells Daily Tips: Seppi to push Andy Murray

Sean Calvert talks us through the best bets on offer for Sunday at Indian Wells which include siding with Andreas Seppi on the handicap against Andy Murray and a shock first-round exit for Robin Soderling. “Seppi’s a pretty honest type of pro who will give his all until the end, unlike many I could mention, so it might pay to take a chance on the Italian hanging on like he did on hard courts against Murray in Rotterdam when the Scot won 7-6, 7-5.” It was quite a Saturday night in Indian Wells, as we saw a shock defeat for Marin Cilic and possibly the worst pair of shorts ever sported at a Tour event, worn of course by the fashion nightmare that is Rafa Nadal. As far as our bets were concerned, we ended up dead level and today’s highlight for British fans will be Andy Murray v Andreas Seppi in their second round clash
