Premier League Betting: Saturday’s 3pm Kick-offs

FA Cup and International Football is behind us for the time being so “Mystical” Mike Norman is back with a preview of Saturday’s Premier League action. Best Bet: Back Villa HT/Villa FT @ 4.2 in Stoke v Aston Villa. Best Bet: Back Villa HT/Villa FT @ 4.2 in Stoke v Aston Villa Also: Back The Draw @ 3.4 in Birmingham v Everton; Back Bolton @ 2.24 to beat Wigan; Back Draw HT/Wolves FT @ 8.2 and Wolves HT/Wolves FT @ 6.4 in Burnley v Wolves; Back Any Unquoted Score @ 4.5 in Chelsea v West Ham Birmingham 3.2 v Everton 2.48 ; The Draw 3.4 It’s amazing to think that a win for Birmingham will take them just two points behind Liverpool – the side that have been favourites to finish fourth in the Premier League for most of the season. Brum have been brilliant under Alex McLeish , but so have Everton under David Moyes, and just because I don’t think either side deserve to lose I’m backing the draw today. It’s been nearly six months since Birmingham tasted defeat at St Andrews, and in that time they’ve conceded just five home goals so I’d have to favour a low-scoring game here. Under 2.5 Goals is available to back at 1.75 , whilst in the Correct Score market, the 0-0 and 1-1 scorelines can be backed at 10.0 and 7.2 respectively

The Pay As You Lay Column: Goals to flow at the Stadium of Light

Can Sunderland’s defenders contain Manchester City’s attack? Should European big names be opposed at short odds? Andrew Atherley selects the best lay bets of the weekend. “Only the top three have scored more away goals than City’s 22 and the only teams to stop them scoring on the road have been Tottenham, Everton and Birmingham – all better teams than Sunderland.” Lay under 2.5 goals at 1.9 in Sunderland v Manchester City Manchester City’s much-vaunted problems on the road do not extend to a lack of goals, and that factor could help to push this match towards a high-scoring encounter, if not quite as high as City’s 4-3 win in the reverse fixture in December. Over 2.5 goals was exceeded in the opening 16 minutes on that occasion and there are reasons to believe that mark will be surpassed again, at least within the 90 minutes. Only the top three have scored more away goals than City’s 22 and the only teams to stop them scoring on the road have been Tottenham, Everton and Birmingham – all better teams than Sunderland.

Ligue 1 Betting: Back Les Verts to bring Lyon back down to earth

Just because Claude Puel’s Lyon knocked Real Madrid out of the Champions League in midweek doesn’t mean they’ll have things all their own way in the derby against St Etienne on Saturday night, writes James Eastham. Best bet: Monaco v Bordeaux over 2.5 goals @ 2.38 . Recommended bets: Back St Etienne +1.25 Asian handicap at Lyon @ 1.95; Le Mans v Nice over 2.5 goals @ 2.40; Monaco v Bordeaux over 2.5 goals @ 2.38. St Etienne +1.25 at Lyon (Saturday, 8pm UK time) Lyon produced one of the biggest upsets of the European season by knocking Real Madrid out of the Champions League on Wednesday night but the players have only a few days to recover before facing St Etienne in one of the most hotly-contested derbies in France. Lyon are unbeaten against their local rivals in 16 years but St Etienne are one of the few sides in Ligue 1 playing well enough to challenge Claude Puel’s hosts.

FA Cup Betting: Fulham v Tottenham

Jaymes Monte analyses an FA Cup game which he hopes will be an entirely different spectacle from that which he witnessed last Sunday… “With Fulham suffering just three home defeats all season – Arsenal, Aston Villa and Chelsea – it is difficult to justify Spurs being such clear favourites at 2.5 . Yet that display against Sunderland is still too fresh in the memory to suggest backing Fulham at 3.2 , what if it wasn’t a resolute away performance? What if they really are on running on empty? “ I had the displeasure of paying to attend the Sunderland versus Fulham game last week and let me tell you that reports of it being one of the worst games of the season are not exaggerated. The best way of describing the game is to say that it was a team that didn’t want to win playing against a team who didn’t know how to win. However, we shouldn’t denigrate or criticise Fulham, after all this is the cornerstone from which they have built their success under Roy Hodgson – win your home games and anything that you can pick up on your travels is a bonus. Unfortunately, there is little that can be taken form that game which can be applied to this one.

Weekend Football Round-up: Wayne wows Wembley and Rafa winds up Sam

Spanish class triumphs over native aggression at Anfield but Rooney shows there’s more to English football with a superlative cup-wining display. Ralph Ellis rounds up the weekend’s football and selects the best bets going forward. “I believe Barcelona are thinking about copying Allardyce’s this style.” Look at the average Spanish beach on holiday and you can understand why the British play a different game to the rest of the world. See two groups of four kids – the Spanish ones will be playing keepy-uppies and juggling the ball from one to another. The English boys will be playing two v two and tearing into tackles

Premier League Betting: This Weekend’s Non-TV Games

Five out of the six highlighted selections (all odds against) were successful for “Mystical” Mike Norman last weekend, so what chance a repeat performance this week? Best Bet: Lay Liverpool @ 1.39 in Liverpool v Blackburn. Best Bet: Lay Liverpool @ 1.39 in Liverpool v Blackburn Also: Back Draw HT/Birmingham FT @ 5.0 in Birmingham v Wigan; Back Over 2.5 Goals @ 2.16 in Bolton v Wolves; Back Kevin Davies To Score @ 3.0 in Bolton v Wolves; Back Under 1.5 Goals @ 3.4 in Burnley v Portsmouth; Back Fulham @ 3.8 to beat Sunderland Birmingham 1.96 v Wigan 4.7 ; The Draw 3.5 It’s just two wins in nine now for Birmingham, but from the highlights I saw against Fulham last week they still look to be playing ok and they should be too good for a poor Wigan side . I was bitterly disappointed with the Latics’ performance against Spurs last Sunday, and that defeat now means that Roberto Martinez’s outfit have won just one of their last dozen league games. I fancy Brum to win this game to nil so don’t expect an avalanche of goals here

The Over/Under 2.5 Goals Column: Making beer money from the Carling Cup final

Ed Nicholson gives us his best selections from this weekend’s Premier League fixtures and an intriguing Carling Cup final, where assuming Wayne Rooney can be kept relatively quiet, we should have a low-scoring encounter. “This season Aston Villa have the best defensive record in the Premier League having conceded just 21 goals in 26 games, while Man Utd have conceded just 24 in 28 matches. When sides meet with such good defences – regardless of how good their goal scorers have been and how many times the team has scored, it’s the defences that usually come out the best.” Stoke v Arsenal Stoke have beaten Arsenal twice at the Britannia stadium since winning promotion to the Premier League. Last year they surprised Arsene Wenger’s side by winning 2-1, and then embarrassed an admittedly weakened Arsenal side 3-1 in the FA Cup earlier this year. It seems that Tony Pulis has found the secret to beating Arsenal, and it seems to revolve around the same way Man Utd play them at the Emirates.

Premier League Betting: This Weekend’s Non-TV Games

Three games on Saturday and three on Sunday make up this weekend’s non-televised fixtures, and our resident crystal ball hogger “Mystical” Mike Norman is here to preview them all. Best Bet: Back Fulham @ 2.16 to beat Birmingham. Best Bet: Back Fulham @ 2.16 to beat Birmingham Also: Back Under 2.5 Goals @ 2.62 in Arsenal v Sunderland; Back West Ham HT/West Ham FT @ 2.96 in West Ham v Hull; Back Didier Drogba First Goalscorer @ 4.8 in Wolves v Chelsea; Back Blackburn @ 2.04 to beat Bolton; Back Any Unquoted Correct Score @ 14.0 in Man City v Liverpool Arsenal 1.25 v Sunderland 18.0 ; The Draw 6.0 I’m not saying Arsenal’s goalkeeper is a laughing stock but I was at a children’s birthday party the other day and the entertainer came dressed as Lukasz Fabianski ! Fortunately for the embarrassing Pole (or whoever’s in goal for the Gunners) Sunderland’s away form is dismal, and I doubt the Black Cats will threaten to score at the Emirates in what should be a comfortable afternoon for the home side… and their goalkeeper

As the likes of Gary Cahill and Nani sit out this weekend’s fixtures through injury and suspension respectively, Bettorlogic discuss how their absences should affect our betting plans… “Since the start of last season Cahill has been the bedrock of Bolton’s defence – playing 55 of their 63 games – and his importance to the Trotters is highlighted by their failure to win any of the eight matches he’s missed, drawing three and losing five.” Click Here to subscribe to Player PRO and have a free 14 day trial. Premier League Betting: Portsmouth v Stoke City

The less said about Portsmouth’s off-field problems the better but on Saturday afternoon they’ll have a chance to let the football do the talking against an ever-resilient Stoke side. A chance they’re unlikely to make the most of, says Richard Walker. Best Bets: Lay Portsmouth @ 2.46 ; Back Under 1.5 goals @ 3.05 ; Back Stoke clean sheet @ 3.45
