The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Wednesday April 7

A tip from the Joker to get your betting day under way… The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Back Marseille/Marseille at 2.0 v Sochaux Wacker Innsbruck couldn’t be relied on for any of their usual away goals yesterday evening, but Rheindorf Altach were most obliging in scoring three at the other end, all of which were just enough for a happy Tuesday. The Joker’s found a stray Ligue One match for tonight’s entertainment and, even better, some good reasons to have a punt on it. Marseille have won five of their last six home games and scored within 45 minutes of the same proportion. Sochaux , meanwhile, have hardly scored at all on the road – two goals in their last 10. Which means if Marseille score early, they’re likely to hang on to their lead, so the full-time result should be the same as the half-time result, just as it has been in all five of Sochaux’s most recent away games. You’ve got all of that, right? Recommendation: Back Marseille/Marseille at 2.0 v Sochaux

The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Tuesday April 6

A tip from the Joker to get your betting day under way… The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Back Over 2.5 Goals at 1.76 in Rheindorf Altach v Wacker Innsbruck A distinct lack of festive spirit in Alsace last night. Not that Alsatians are usually associated with much joviality. Just a goal apiece for Strasbourg and Metz then, and a blot on the Easter Bank Holiday for the Joker. Perhaps he can wipe it clean with a match from the rarely seen Austrian 1.Liga. Rheindorf Altach have nine goals from their last three at home, where five of the last seven have gone Over 2.5 Goals. Visiting Wacker Innsbruck are the Tiger Woods of the division – scoring freely away from home.

The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Monday April 5

A tip from the Joker to get your betting day under way… The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Back Over 2.5 Goals at 2.44 in Strasbourg v Metz Easter came early on Friday. But it wasn’t bearing chocolates eggs. Instead, it came with a 2.48 winner from Ligue 2 and left the Joker looking like a Robert Pattinson fan – in the black for a third consecutive week. And possibly longer, but his research doesn’t go back that far. In contrast, his analysis of tonight’s French game is rigorous. Since December last year four of Strasbourg’s eight home league games have produced Over 2.5 Goals. Going back to the end of October 2009 5/11 Metz away matches have gone the same way.

Moto GP Season Betting Preview: Stoner to pip Rossi

Trent Burton looks ahead to the 2009/10 Moto GP season which he’s expecting to be an absolute cracker and where based on what we’ve seen so far in testing, Casey Stoner looks the best bet. “Rossi is without question the best rider on the grid, but, (and I’ll probably get hate mail for this), Stoner is hands down the quickest. If he can get it all together for a trouble-free year, something’s that’s been missing for the last two seasons, he’s my tip for his second championship.” After the longest off-season I can remember, the 2010 season is now just a week away from getting started

The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Friday April 2

A tip from the Joker to get your betting day under way… The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Back Over 2.5 Goals at 2.48 in Chateauroux v Dijon Those two Polish teams with hard-to-remember names only got a third of the way to three goals yesterday, leaving the Joker needing a win to round off another successful week at the coalface of sports betting. He’s also in need of a column. Which is why he’s going to run something past you. It’s a pun. He’s not aware of it having been made in public before. It might be quite good, but it probably asks too much of its audience

The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Thursday April 1

A tip from the Joker to get your betting day under way… The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Back Over 2.5 Goals at 2.66 in Cracovia Krakow v Jagiellonia Bialystok A good win for Anderlecht against Gent yesterday. Good, that is, in the sense that it was the outcome the Joker had hoped for. The moral worth of the Purple and Whites’ three points can be discussed some other time. For today it’s Cracovia Krakow at home to Jagiellonia Bialystok in the Polish Ekstraklasa. And the numbers say Over 2.5 Goals should be a lot shorter than 2.66 . Five of Cracovia’s last seven home games have gone that way, as have three of Jaga’s most recent six on the road. The fools will be the ones who don’t rush in. Recommendation: Back Over 2.5 Goals at 2.66 in Cracovia Krakow v Jagiellonia Bialystok

The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Wednesday March 31

A tip from the Joker to get your betting day under way… The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Back Anderlecht at 2.16 to beat Gent Heidenheim were shredded 1-0 by Braun last night and your cheeky columnist was denuded of his sense of humour. But at least he’s got all of the foolishness out of the way a couple of days early. There’s a big game to cheer him up in the Pro League this evening as Anderlecht visit Gent

Timeform 1-2-3: March 31st

The Timeform Free Form Service hope to round off a fruitful March with a winning selection from each of the three meetings on Wednesday. “With another last-time-out winner in Gilsland in opposition Brimham Boy may not be that short a price..” Starting off at Southwell and our first two-year-old tip of the season in Jamesway (2.00) . The son of Camacho ticks all the right boxes, as a brother to Star Rover, who did so well in his first season last year (won his first four starts), and hailing from the Richard Fahey yard which has started the new turf season much like it spent the last – in blistering form. Just four are declared for the novice handicap chase at Hereford and with Brimham Boy (4.10) so impressive at the track last week we’ll take him to follow up under a penalty. The eight-year-old has quickly got back on the up this season having left David Bridgwater and, while this will be his first start beyond three miles, he ought to stay. With another last-time-out winner in Gilsland in opposition he may not be that short a price

The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Tuesday March 30

A tip from the Joker to get your betting day under way… The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Back FC Heidenheim at [1.99] to beat Braun Without a goal in three out of four matches on the road, Racing Santander chose a bad time to score three last night. But, hallelujah, Athletic Bilbao managed four and the Joker got a handout from La Catedral. But enough with the Pope already – he seems a pretty shady character. The Joker’s off to Lutheran Germany, where FC Heidenheim have won six of their last seven at the GAGFAH – bless you! – Arena. This evening’s visitors are Braun , who are W0-D5-L6 away from home since winning a match last August and might suffer another dent to their reputation because this shouldn’t even be a close shave.

The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Monday March 29

A tip from the Joker to get your betting day under way… The Joker’s Bet of the Day: Back Athletic Bilbao at 1.97 to beat Racing Santander After 46 minutes and two goals of FC Eindhoven-Den Bosch, the Joker was heavily odds-on for a Grand Slam of a week. But they couldn’t muster another goal between them and, after five winners, he was onto a loser. That’ll learn him for taking cautious 1.5 bets in pursuit of history. In pursuit of little other than a chunk of money today, the Joker’s knocking at the door of Spanish football’s La Catedral. Athletic Bilbao have won five of their last six La Liga games at San Mames, while visiting Racing Santander haven’t even scored in three of their last four on the road. Recommendation: Back Athletic Bilbao at 1.97 to beat Racing Santander
