This Week On Betfair Live Video: Livorno v Roma

Roma need to be winning matches such as these if they are to close the gap at the top of Serie A and this trip to Catania is a very winnable fixture for them… Roma will have seen Saturday’s home tie against AC Milan as a great opportunity to draw level on points with them and also close the gap on Inter Milan, albeit for just 24 hours. They failed to achieve the first of their two objectives after the goalless draw on Saturday night but luckily for them, Inter also drew 0-0 at home to Genoa on Sunday night, meaning it’s all still to play for in Serie A. It’s testament to Roma and in particular the managerial skills of Claudio Ranieri that they’re still in contention to win the league despite having been without their two most likely sources of goals in Luca Toni and Francesco Totti for the last few weeks. They’re unlikely to be without this duo once again this weekend but the good news for Roma fans is that they could hardly have hoped for an easier trip than travelling to Livorno. Currently lying in 18th place, they have won just 4 of their 14 home fixtures and if Roma play to the best of their ability and can create enough chances for the talented Mirko Vucinic and former Arsenal forward Julio Baptista , they can take all three points here and this time really pile the pressure on Inter and AC Milan

Serie A Betting: Roma to win and put serious pressure on Inter

Dave Farrar looks ahead to the weekend’s action in Serie A where Claudio Ranieri’s Roma are closing the gap on league favourites Inter Milan and could really turn up the heat on Jose Mourinho’s men by getting the better of the “other Milan” this weekend. “Claudio Ranieri’s side had won eight in a row in the League before throwing away a two goal lead in Naples last week, and even though they’re still troubled by injuries, I think that Roma at home will be too good for Milan.” ROMA v MILAN Milan have the tantalising prospect of waking up on Sunday morning just one point behind Inter in the race for the Scudetto, but first they’ll have to beat Serie A’s in form team in the shape of Roma. Claudio Ranieri’s side had won eight in a row in the League before throwing away a two goal lead in Naples last week, and even though they’re still troubled by injuries, I think that Roma at home will be too good for Milan. Francesco Totti is still out, but there’s a chance that Luca Toni may be fit enough for the bench, and Roma’s strength of will without those two players has been really impressive. They give you the impression of being a squad in the true sense of the word, and the likes of Julio Baptista and Mirko Vucinic have stepped up to the plate in the absence of Totti and Toni. Their chances of winning the midfield battle will be helped by the absence of Gennaro Gattuso from the Milan team, and Roma still have title ambitions of their own, in the knowledge that they alone, among the top teams in the division still have the chance of taking points off Inter. If Roma can win on Saturday night and then beat Inter in three weeks time, then their comfortable looking run in will give them a real chance of a shock title win, and the 18.5 which is available about them winning Serie A isn’t the worst bet in the world

Serie A Betting: Be all over over-priced Inter

Dave Farrar tells us how the Betfair markets have over-reacted to Inter Milan’s absentees on Sunday afternoon and why value-wise, a depleted Inter Milan side are a good bet to go to Udinese and pick up all three points. “Even though the back four will look strange, and possibly include a new face in Luca Caldirola, Inter’s backup players are still better than Udinese’s first teamers, and pushing out their price because of absentees is an overreaction.” UDINESE v INTER After their dramatic comeback against Cagliari in midweek, a result which gave Pasquale Marino’s new spell in charge its best possible start, Udinese welcome Inter to the Friuli, hoping to claim a huge scalp as they look to move further away from the relegation zone. My instinct was to tip Udinese to pick up a shock win, as they have momentum and Inter went through a tough midweek game.

Bundesliga Betting: Beware of men in tights as Bayern march on

Kevin Hatchard is full of praise for Louis Van Gaal’s lack of activity in the transfer market which has allowed Bayern to trim down their squad and put together a good string of results, led by the superb Arjen Robben.

Serie A Betting: A betting weekend of two Milans

One of the two Milans is a good price to win away from home this weekend whilst the other is a short price to win their match and worth taking on in the asian handicap. Dave Farrar tells us which is which. “I think that they’re good enough to cope, and given that Inter will definitely miss Wesley Sneijder and Lucio, and could also be without Eto’o and Stankovic, Cagliari certainly have a chance of at least holding Mourinho’s side.” FIORENTINA v ROMA Fiorentina may be the Italian side which is best placed to progress in the Champions League, but their domestic form is falling apart.

Serie A Betting: Milan to win and throw Serie A wide open

It’s the Milan Derby this weekend and Leonardo’s AC can overcome Jose Mourinho’s containing tactics and deliver a victory for attacking football and themselves.

Bundesliga Betting: Bayern to come out on top in the big game of the week

Kevin Hatchard tells us about the turnaround in fortunes at Bayern Munich that has resulted in Luca Toni moving on to Roma and Louis Van Gaal being in the fans’ good books. It’s Werder Bremen away this week and there’s no reason why their momentum should be stopped.
