Cheltenham Head-to-Heads: The Gold Cup

It’s the most talked about race of the jumps season but the market knows all about Kauto and Denman now – so is there an angle for you to exploit or is it just a case of backing the one you like most? Will Hayler and Graham Cunningham muse on the Festival’s likely climax “The market has had months in which to find the right price for the two most charismatic staying chasers of the modern era and anyone who says they are drastically over or under priced at 1.8 and 5.2 respectively is arguing against the combined logic of the entire bookmaking and betting exchange industry.” Will Hayler : I love Kauto Star . And I love Denman too. But which one of them is better

NBA Weekend Betting: Championship contenders to the fore

Nick Shiambouros updates us on the NBA scene ahead of an intriguing weekend of b-ball action “Things could not be more competitive in both Conferences. There are a host of teams that have a legitimate chance of winning the title but only two dominate the betting. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers are both currently trading at 3.45 for the NBA championship.

Premier League Betting: Tottenham v Blackburn

Jaymes Monte looks at the first of the weekend’s Premier League matches where Tottenham are aiming to move clear of those chasing that coveted fourth Champions League spot. Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals @ 2.1 . “Blackburn’s main problem away from home has been finding the back of the net; since the turn of the year they have only managed a solitary goal from open play on their travels in the league. That leads to the 2.1 on their being less than 2.5 goals looking like a good value bet.” Luka Modric has thrown down the gauntlet to his Tottenham team mates by stating that a successful season for them would be to win the FA Cup and claim fourth spot in the Premier League. Not that Spurs or Harry Redknapp have ever shied away from the fact that they are having a tremendous season which could reap endless rewards but a public statement from one of their top players that they are not content with a Europa League spot is of great significance

Ben Davies: My goals are helping us close in on Rochdale

As the season reaches the business end of proceedings and Notts continue to climb up the table, Ben looks back at the best players he’s faced this year and nominates the best goal he’s ever scored. “We’re slowly climbing the league table and starting to catch up on some of our games in hand, in the process closing the gap on table-toppers Rochdale. They have been extremely consistent this year and have a fantastic home record. We have played against some very good players this year but for me Rochdale’s striker Chris Dagnall has been the pick of the bunch.” Another week has gone by and we’ve played two more games as we continue to battle through our hectic schedule of League Two fixtures

The Road to the Kentucky Derby: Pletcher comes to the party

Todd Pletcher’s Super Saver starts his Derby campaign in Tampa and Mike Joyce intends to back his ‘buzz’ horse “Super Saver’s got the pedigree, the class and the connections, and the word is that he’s been working like a machine in the mornings. I’d love to try to beat him, but I don’t know if I can. Take any price

Six Nations Betting Preview: Ireland v Wales

The Grand Slam may be gone but Ireland are already looking ahead to World Cup 2011 and are using the remainder of their Six Nations campaign to learn valuable lessons. George Hook expects them to take advantage of an under-performing Welsh side this weekend. “Wales 4.7 have yet to put in a good performance for 80 minutes. They are missing several key players and while they are not to be taken lightly, Ireland 1.3 should register another home win.” Ireland’s defeat to France in Paris is still a painful memory for the players. It was the catalyst for a gritty, determined performance against England and it will carry them through to the end of this year’s championship. But it was also a useful lesson.

IRELAND’S EYE on Friday

Friday 12 March IRELAND’S EYE There is full line up of meetings today both on the flat and over jumps with Dundalk and Wolverhampton under the floodlights tonight providing the all weather action in Ireland and the UK backed up by four jump cards at Ayr, Wincanton, Sandown and Leicester. The hunter chases will provide the backbone of our betting strategy today and there are sound reasons for siding with a course and distance winner at Leicester despite a poor effort last time while a Victor Dartnall trained handicap hurdler can score at generous odds at Sandown Bene Lad (3-9/4) was our sole winner yesterday but we did have plenty of placed selections headed by Ag Dul Suas (13/2) in the opener at Clonmel while two of our selections in the handicap hurdle Shorecliffe King (11/4-5/2) and Jacks Island (12/1) went down narrowly to the top weight at the same venue. Coscorrig (5/4) was a disappointing third in the mares novice chase at the Tipperary venue while our supplemental choice Noble Concorde (16/1) finished runner up to the ‘jolly’ in another novice chase. The opening mares novice hurdle at Wincanton today at 2-00 over 2m 6f can give Alan King a pre Cheltenham winner with the 5yo Call At Midnight. Although the daughter of Midnight Legend – a bumper winner at Bangor on her debut has not shown progression on her second start over sticks and has had a rear view of the decent mare Banjaxed Girl now on three occasions the Robert Thornton ridden mare can make it third time lucky here and account for the Hughie Morrison trained Yonder a two time flat winner who should appreciate better ground here on her third start over hurdles. Likely favourite Far From Blonde finished a modest third in this race last year but Paul Nicholls lightly raced 6yo does not look bomb proof and though she could also improve for a better surface she is taken on here. Dual point winner Oopsmylord may have ‘bombed out’ last time on heavy ground at Haydock but the 8yo has proved himself on better ground and he can return to winning ways in the extended 2m 7f hunter chase at Leicester at 3-40. A winner over course and distance on his chase debut last year where he accounted for the useful and subsequent dual hunter chase scorer Gentle George (gave 7lbs)one of the leaders in the betting for the Christies Foxhunters next week the son of Rock Hopper was not disgraced on his seasonal debut when finishing runner up to the useful Bob Hall at Ludlow

IPL Betting: Mumbai Indians v Rajasthan Royals

Mumbai have so far failed to live up to the hype and expectation of their passionate fans. Can they get off to winning ways against the Royals in IPL3 on Friday? Ed Hawkins doesn’t think so Venue and conditions The Brabourne stadium surface in Mumbai may not satisfy those wanting a run feast. In the eight 50-over internationals played there, no side has scored more than 234. There is a slight toss bias, too. Five of the last seven ODIs were won by the side batting second. Team news This is something of a phoney war with both sides waiting for their star men to show up. Rajasthan are without Shane Watson , player of the inaugural tournament, while Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard are with West Indies instead of Mumbai
